Dre Greenlaw Reflects on Denver Stint, Says Mile-High Altitude Took a Physical Toll

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw has opened up about the physical challenges he experienced during his brief time with the Denver Broncos, saying the city's high altitude made even routine activities feel like a struggle.

Speaking about his offseason experience, Greenlaw described the adjustment to Denver's elevation as unexpectedly demanding. He said the thin air left him feeling exhausted and joked that he was "fighting demons" while trying to adapt to the conditions, highlighting just how difficult the transition proved to be.

Denver, known as the "Mile High City," sits roughly 5,280 feet above sea level. The reduced oxygen levels at that elevation can make physical exertion more taxing, particularly for athletes who have spent most of their careers training at lower elevations. Although many players gradually acclimate, the adjustment period can vary significantly from person to person.

Greenlaw's comments came after his return to the San Francisco 49ers following a short tenure with the Broncos during the offseason. The veteran linebacker is now focused on preparing for the upcoming NFL season as he reunites with the team where he established himself as one of the league's most productive defensive players.

His remarks quickly drew attention from NFL fans, many of whom shared stories about the challenges visitors often experience in Denver. Others noted that the Broncos have long benefited from playing home games at high altitude, where visiting teams sometimes struggle to maintain the same level of endurance throughout four quarters.

Despite his humorous description of the experience, Greenlaw made it clear that the altitude posed a genuine physical challenge during workouts and daily activities. His comments also offered a glimpse into one of the lesser-discussed adjustments athletes face when changing teams and training environments.

As the regular season approaches, Greenlaw is expected to play a key role in San Francisco's defense. With his focus now firmly back on football, the linebacker hopes the only battles ahead will come on the field rather than against the effects of elevation.
